Workshop Description:

As our society has become increasingly diverse, so has the approach to and knowledge about diversity, equity, and inclusion. Thus, it is important to gain a deeper understanding of DEI if we are to create more inclusive climates, address the needs of diverse communities, and enhance work environments for all.

This workshop introduces participants to concepts and frameworks that highlight the complexities of DEI. Concepts such as worldview, social identities, individualism, collectivism, privilege, institutional “isms”, and salient/non-salient identities are presented during the workshop. The practice of Inclusive Excellence, a systemic, institutional, and practical approach to DEI will also be introduced. The workshop is interactive, engaging, and involves team interaction.

 Learning outcomes include increased:

1) self-awareness related to issues and concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion

2) understanding of the role of group identities in shaping intergroup relations within an organization

3) ability to examine societal and organizational issues through the lens of worldview, privilege, and group identities

4) readiness to explore the systemic nature of discrimination

5) understanding the practice of Inclusive Excellence: the critical and practical step of taking action to create inclusive environments.
